The Payback, Inc. 501(c)(3) has partnered with Urban Peak to raise money to support Denver’s homeless youth. All proceeds from the show will go to Urban Peak to help fund their Shelter and Housing Programs.
More about Urban Peak (https://www.urbanpeak.org):
Urban Peak’s overnight shelter is the only licensed shelter in Denver serving youth ages 15 through 20 who are experiencing homelessness. Open 365 days a year regardless of weather conditions, the 40-bed facility (50 beds in cold weather) houses two dorms, one for males, one for females, and two private rooms for youth who do not feel comfortable in the larger dorm rooms. During their stay, Shelter participants work with a case manager to create an individualized service plan based on the principles of trauma informed care and Positive Youth Development. Urban Peak owns three apartment complexes and operates multiple housing programs throughout Denver designed to meet the distinct needs of the youth, including: treatment for substance abuse or mental illness, adaptive living skills for youth with physical or developmental disabilities, and independent living skills for youth who are exiting the streets or child welfare services. The ultimate goal of Urban Peak’s Housing programs is to support the youth as they work to build the confidence and skills necessary to find and keep their own safe and stable housing.
The Payback was started by Eddie Roberts, guitarist and bandleader of UK Funk group The New Mastersounds and Matador! Soul Sounds. After spending time in the Tenderloin district of San Francisco for several years, Eddie developed a real sense of connection to the community and felt the day-to-day reality of the burgeoning homeless situation in the neighborhood. Eddie has since moved to Denver, CO where the number of children identified as homeless has doubled in recent years. There is currently a mass displacement of families occurring all over the U.S, and families with young children are often hit hardest with these changes. We are proud of our role in bringing together all-star musicians like Zigaboo Modeliste, Oteil Burbridge, Robert Walter and Jennifer Hartswick, to contribute their time and talent to this cause. Since 2015 The Payback, Inc has raised over $75k for organizations that provide services for homeless families and children.
Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe guitarist, DJ Williams, has assembled an all star cast of musicians for his solo work featuring members of today’s best bands. This includes members of Dave Matthews Band, Lenny Kravitz, Slightly Stoopid, Trey Anastasio Band, Lyrics Born, Soulive, Greyboy Allstars, and many others, switching the exact lineup around every time so as to ensure that every Shots Fired show is a one-of-a-kind throw-down that you just can’t get from anything other than music made in the moment, for the moment.
